It can be crushing when our best efforts aren't enough, when finally we admit that need help. But when we try to manage our inner world by pushing it away or running away, we only get temporary relief- and often invite anxiety or depression to intensify. That's because most anxiety and depression symptoms are not diseases, but requests for attention and care from the deepest parts of your being.
In fact, symptoms hold the keys to your growth.
Here's how I can help
Talk Therapy I offer psychodynamic therapy, which is a fancy term for traditional talk therapy. Psychodynamic therapy uses the relationship between therapist and client to explore your unconscious material, repair attachment wounds and empower clients to claim their true self. The importance of working with attachment wounding is hard to overemphasize- after all, your earliest relationships created your brain structure, designed your original sense of self and directly impacted your psychological defense mechanisms. If you want to shift any of these elements in your life, it helps to use the right tools.
Parts Work During therapy, I will use terms like "inner critic" or "child part" to help you think about your different needs and relational dynamics with yourself. Working with the different parts of your psyche can to terms with conflicting or repressed elements of your psyche. But more than just recognizing your parts, this is work that can help you treat yourself with kindness and transform fear and shame into useful guides for living a fulfilling life. There are a variety of modalities people refer to when they talk about "parts work," such as Internal Family Systems- and I incorporate the most helpful aspects of these into a tailor-made approach for meeting you where you're at.
Mindfulness After many years of practicing mindfulness meditation, I can confidentaly say it is the most important tool to self-growth and self-regulation that exists. Mindfulness reduces anxiety while increasing self-awareness. It's a practice that allows us to gain a sense of control and safety in our lives. During sessions, I will invite you to notice your body and breath so that you can practice returning to yourself instead of escaping or avoiding. I'll introduce compassionate self care as well as practical tools for managing your symptoms.
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes, once a week. I charge $200 per session with a sliding scale for those with financial need.
